Introduction to Dome Switch

Dome switch is a piece of PET sheet containing metal shrapnel (dome switch). It is used on PCB or FPC circuit board as a switch, playing an important role as tactile switch between the user and the instrument. Compared with traditional silicone keypad, membrane keyboard is more comfortable to touch, has longer life, and can indirectly improve the production efficiency of various types of switches using conductive membrane.

The metal shrapnel on the membrane button is located on the conductive part of the PCB board (mostly located above the gold fingers on the circuit board). When the shrapnel is pressed, its center point is concave and touches the circuit on the dome switch PCB, thus forming the loop where the current passes through, so the whole product can work normally.

Made of stainless steel, the metal shrapnel( dome swith) is an important part of the switch. With the help of the conductivity of the metal shrapnel, it acts as a high-quality switch between the operator and the product. At the same time, it can provide the operator with high-quality tactile feedback with the stable resilience and long life span of the dome switch (automatically return to normal after pressing). Shrapnel is mainly used in membrane switches of rigid boards such as printed circuit boards.
